Kenya Red Cross Deploys Emergency Aid to Families Fleeing Ethiopian Border Conflict
The Kenya Red Cross is rushing emergency supplies to 1,000 households fleeing violence in Moyale, Ethiopia. Discover the latest on the humanitarian crisis.
POLICY WIRE — Nairobi, Kenya — The Kenya Red Cross Society has initiated an urgent humanitarian relief operation to support families seeking refuge in Kenya following a surge of violence in the Ethiopian border town of Moyale.
The conflict, which intensified on October 22 after several days of mounting tension, has forced hundreds of individuals—predominantly women, children, and young people—to cross the border in search of safety. Gunfire has reportedly continued to echo from the Ethiopian side of the frontier.
In response to the influx, the organization is mobilizing resources to assist an initial 1,000 households in Marsabit County. These displaced families arrived with minimal possessions and are currently facing critical shortages of food, shelter, safe drinking water, and medical care.
The emergency response package includes the distribution of essential household supplies, nutritional support, and the provision of first aid. The aid effort aims to stabilize the situation for those fleeing clashes between security forces in Ethiopia’s Oromia region and other factions.
