Border Chief Defends Texas Wall Expansion Amid Legal Standoff
Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott defends the $46 billion border wall project in Texas despite a court-ordered construction pause.
POLICY WIRE — Blaine, Wash. — The Trump administration’s top border official is doubling down on plans to construct a wall and additional infrastructure within Texas’ Big Bend region, despite facing significant legal hurdles and widespread public opposition.
Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott stated in an exclusive interview that the $46 billion initiative remains a non-negotiable priority for national security. He argued that failing to fortify the Big Bend area would leave it vulnerable to being completely overrun, even as a court-ordered injunction currently halts construction efforts.
The project, which aims to secure approximately 2,000 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border with steel barriers and advanced surveillance, is reportedly ahead of schedule. Commissioner Scott emphasized that the agency is actively engaging with local stakeholders to address concerns regarding the environmental and social impact of the construction, particularly within Big Bend National Park.
