Federal Authorities Seize Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Phone, Issue Subpoenas in Criminal Probe
Federal agents have seized Rep. Ilhan Omar's phone and issued grand jury subpoenas to relatives amid an ongoing investigation into immigration paperwork.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — Federal investigators have seized the mobile phone of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., as part of a widening criminal probe. Authorities have also issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas, including several directed at the congresswoman’s relatives.
The subpoenas are tied to a grand jury in Minnesota currently gathering evidence regarding potential fraud in Omar’s immigration documentation. This development follows a federal search of the lawmaker’s Washington, D.C. residence conducted on Monday, just weeks before the upcoming November midterm elections.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has indicated that the inquiry involves potential criminal activity concerning family immigration records. Additionally, Washington D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated in a recent interview that her office is examining multiple investigations involving Omar, including questions surrounding her financial disclosures, adding, If there was a crime that was committed, it will be prosecuted.
The timing of the home search has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats, who characterize the move as a politically motivated attempt to weaponize federal law enforcement against a political opponent. In a statement posted to X, Omar described the situation as an escalation of a decade-long campaign of intimidation by Donald Trump, asserting, “I will not be silenced.”
