Reform UK Faces Backlash Following Undercover Documentary Exposing Extremist Rhetoric
Reform UK party members caught on camera making racist and violent remarks. Policy Wire investigates the fallout from the explosive undercover documentary.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party is grappling with a significant crisis after an undercover documentary captured party members, including local elected officials, engaging in racist, sexual, and violent discourse.
A year-long investigation conducted by ITV and additional footage from Channel 4 News revealed graphic threats and discriminatory language. In one instance, an activist filmed in Clacton, Essex, suggested that migrants should be utilized as target practice.
The undercover inquiry followed Farage during the 2024 General Election campaign. The resulting footage exposed homophobic, Islamophobic, and racist sentiments among supporters and members of the leader’s inner circle, alongside an apparent admission regarding a violation of campaign spending regulations.
This controversy follows a broader pattern of internal turmoil for the party. During the 2024 campaign period, Reform UK was forced to withdraw support from at least 11 parliamentary candidates following the discovery of offensive social media posts and public remarks.
The documentary, titled UNDERCOVER, highlights that the issues within the party extend beyond isolated incidents. It provides a detailed look at the unfiltered views held by various figures, contrasting these internal sentiments with the public image of the party.
Farage now faces mounting pressure to distance the party from these individuals. The revelations have sparked widespread scrutiny regarding the vetting processes and the ideological composition of the party’s local-level candidates.
