Zelensky Slams Trump’s Diesel Deal With Russia as Putin Laughs Amid Fresh Energy Infrastructure Strikes
Volodymyr Zelensky hits out at Donald Trump over a Russian diesel deal, warning Vladimir Putin is laughing as fresh strikes hit Ukrainian energy facilities.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has launched a sharp critique of Donald Trump over a recent diesel deal with Moscow, declaring that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is laughing over the arrangement.
During an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Zelensky admitted he felt betrayed by the US administration’s choice to ease sanctions on Russian diesel shipments. He stated that losing a robust American partner is regrettable and warned that Washington is currently on the wrong side of history.
The remarks came as Russian forces continued a heavy overnight aerial bombardment targeting energy facilities across Ukraine. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the morning missile attacks killed one person and injured another in the capital, while inflicting severe damage on vital municipal infrastructure.
Zelensky argued that the ongoing strikes demonstrate total Russian disrespect for a recently announced energy ceasefire promoted by the White House. Posting on X, the Ukrainian leader emphasized that the ballistic missile assault was entirely deliberate and aimed directly at the grid protected under the US-led agreement.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin expressed confusion regarding the actual parameters of the proposed energy truce. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov questioned journalists about the outline and specific definitions of the arrangement, noting that Moscow remains uncertain of its terms.
A White House adviser clarified to Axios that the truce applied strictly to oil refineries rather than the broader electrical grid. Despite the announcement over the weekend, Trump has refrained from publicly disclosing detailed specifics surrounding the agreement.
Zelensky also expressed frustration regarding unexpected difficulties involving Starlink satellite services and intelligence sharing during his appearance. He stressed that Kyiv expects reliability and absolute honesty from its strategic allies in Washington during these challenging times.
Seeking to reinforce diplomatic backing, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham welcomed the Ukrainian leader to Downing Street on Wednesday. Zelensky received an unprecedented honour guard made up of troops from the Irish Guards upon his arrival at No 10.
Burnham reassured the visiting president that British solidarity with Ukraine remains completely unchanged through difficult days ahead. Meanwhile, across the border in the Russian town of Balakovo along the Volga River, a regional governor reported that drone strikes killed one person and damaged local homes.
