UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava injured in first half against Oregon, leading to backup Ty Dieffenbach stepping in for crucial win.
POLICY WIRE — Eugene, Ore. — UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava suffered a leg injury during the first half of Saturday’s game against No. 13 Oregon, forcing backup Ty Dieffenbach into action as the Bruins secured a 17-15 victory.
Iamaleava was sidelined after being tackled by two Oregon players and grabbed his left leg. He returned briefly but threw an interception before exiting the game. Dieffenbach took over and led the Bruins to the win, completing 43 yards and a touchdown.
Coach Bob Chesney said Iamaleava wasn’t able to return, and the team will evaluate the injury further. Dieffenbach, who transferred from Pittsburgh and Cal Poly, stepped in and was praised for his composure. The Bruins remain focused on their season despite the setback.
