Ex-Trump Donor Threatens Legal Action Against Ambassador Over Amex Dispute
Ex-Trump donor vows to sue Kimberly Guilfoyle over alleged Amex payment request. New details emerge as Trump weighs her future.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A former supporter of the Trump administration has announced plans to take legal action against U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle following a controversy involving a $100,000 payment request for an American Express bill.
The conflict centers on messages exchanged between Guilfoyle and Eric Deters, a Kentucky-based attorney and former congressional candidate, who claims he was asked to send money to cover what he says were unpaid fees from previous consulting work and speaking engagements. Deters denies owing any money and has since threatened to sue both Guilfoyle and her legal team.
Guilfoyle’s legal representatives initially disputed the authenticity of text messages published by The Wall Street Journal, which showed her requesting funds via Signal just days before her confirmation hearing in July 2025. She reportedly urged Deters to make the transfer directly to American Express, stating it would not appear on any records. The dispute has intensified scrutiny of Guilfoyle, with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly considering her fate amid the ongoing scandal.
