Moroccan Centrist Party Forms Coalition with Three Other Parties
Morocco's PAM leads new coalition government after parliamentary elections. Key parties join to form majority.
POLICY WIRE — Rabat, Morocco — Morocco’s centrist Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) has announced plans to lead a coalition government with three other political groups, following its top performance in the recent parliamentary election.
The four-party alliance includes moderate socialist factions and the nationalist Istiqlal party, collectively securing 207 seats in parliament—enough to surpass the 198-seat threshold required for governance. This marks a significant shift from the previous administration, which was led by the National Rally of Independents (RNI), now in second place.
The new coalition replaces the Justice and Development Party (PJD), which had governed Morocco since 2011 but suffered major losses in the latest vote. The formation of this government signals a transition toward a more diverse political landscape, with PAM seeking a central role in shaping the country’s future direction.
