Evangelical Leaders Back Trump’s Plan for Live-Streamed Execution
Faith leaders support Trump's plan to livestream execution. Evangelical adviser claims God commands it.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — Top evangelical figures aligned with President Donald Trump have not condemned the idea of allowing the U.S. military to broadcast the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, who was responsible for killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has advocated for public access to the execution, and a self-described Christian nationalist pastor who attends Hegseth’s church has endorsed the move. One of Trump’s spiritual advisers, Rev. Robert Jeffress, has also supported the plan, claiming that God commands capital punishment as outlined in Genesis 9:6.
Jeffress stated that the execution would serve as an object lesson on the sanctity of life and that more people watching would reinforce this message. Meanwhile, other religious leaders and death penalty abolition advocates have criticized the proposal as a dangerous spectacle that could erode national morality. Vice President JD Vance expressed uncertainty about whether the execution would be live-streamed, while Trump affirmed his intention to carry out the firing squad execution.
