Secret Service Deploys Missile Defense at Mar-a-Lago, Trump Airport Amid Heightened Threats
Missile defense systems protect Mar-a-Lago and Trump Airport as Secret Service cites heightened threats ahead of midterms. NORAD confirms increased security.
POLICY WIRE — Palm Beach, Florida — The United States Secret Service has positioned missile defense systems near Mar-a-Lago and the Donald J. Trump International Airport to counter a heightened threat environment ahead of the midterm elections.
Photographs obtained last week revealed two Avenger Air Defense Systems positioned on a barge adjacent to the Palm Beach resort, which serves as the president’s primary weekend residence.
Armed U.S. service members in fatigues were also observed in the vicinity of the maritime installation.
A separate Avenger system, specifically engineered to neutralize aerial threats, was installed on the southern side of the Palm Beach airport, which was rebranded in honor of the Republican leader earlier this year.
The deployment was confirmed by The South Florida Sun Sentinel.
The U.S. Secret Service is operating in a heightened threat environment, and we continuously adapt our protective operations to incorporate cutting-edge tools, technology, and methods to safeguard our protectees, a Secret Service spokesman told the outlet.
At the request of the U.S. Secret Service, NORAD and U.S. Northern Command are providing Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System capabilities in support of our protective operations, the spokesperson added.
North American Aerospace Defense Command verified to WPBF that these defensive systems had been established in and around the Mar-a-Lago property.
During the same week, while the president was in Florida, a fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft that violated restricted airspace over the resort.
After the fighter jet executed a standard headbutt maneuver to gain the pilot’s attention, the civilian aircraft established communication and safely exited the restricted airspace in full compliance with flight instructions, NORAD disclosed on Saturday.
NORAD, a joint U.S.-Canadian military command, reported that it has intercepted more than 60 aircraft violating flight restrictions around Palm Beach since the beginning of the year.
I would say that is a lot, a NORAD spokesperson remarked during a media briefing earlier this month.
President Trump, 80, has navigated multiple alleged threats to his life, including an incident in 2024 where an armed individual hid in bushes along the perimeter of his Florida golf club.
In a separate incident in February, a 21-year-old man drove a vehicle through a gate at Mar-a-Lago wielding a shotgun before being shot and killed by protective services.
The president will spend the upcoming Saturday at Mar-a-Lago after presiding over a midterm rally in Daytona Beach on Friday evening.
He is set to travel to Kansas and Iowa on Sunday to hold two additional campaign rallies.
The White House initially canceled his appearances in both states but reversed that decision following a reporter’s inquiry into whether the cancellations were linked to the president’s health.
You know what the reason is? I don’t feel I have to go to Kansas, Trump snapped at a Reuters reporter on Thursday.
I feel perfect. You are disgusting, he continued.
With Election Day approaching, polls indicate that Republicans may face significant losses due to voter dissatisfaction with the cost of living and the ongoing Iran war.
Multiple surveys suggest the GOP risks losing its majorities in both the House and the Senate.
The Independent contacted the Secret Service for further comment on the matter.
