Jewish Former Police Commander Joins Islamist Ra’am Party for Israeli Elections
Former Israeli cop Yoav Segalovitz joins the Islamist Ra'am party to fight crime, representing the faction in the upcoming general parliamentary elections.
POLICY WIRE — Sakhnin, Israel — In a move that defies traditional political expectations, a Jewish former officer and self-described Zionist is set to represent an Islamist faction in Israel’s newly formed parliament.
Yoav Segalovitz, who previously served as a police investigator and commander, has officially joined the ranks of the Ra’am party ahead of the country’s general election.
While his background and beliefs may make him an unconventional recruit for an Arab-Muslim political movement, Segalovitz stated his primary focus remains the aggressive fight against crime within the nation.
The election, scheduled to take place on October 27, sees Segalovitz running alongside Mansour Abbas, the leader of the Ra’am party.
Segalovitz was recently seen campaigning at an event held in Tel Aviv on Friday, October 23, 2026, as the party prepares for the upcoming legislative vote.
