Obama Blasts Trump and GOP Allies for ‘Cruelty’ in Final Midterm Push
Former President Barack Obama campaigns in Ohio and Michigan, condemning the political tactics of Donald Trump and Republican candidates ahead of Nov. 3.
POLICY WIRE — Cleveland, USA — Former President Barack Obama launched a sharp critique on Saturday against President Donald Trump and his Republican allies, characterizing their campaign tactics as cruel and indecent as he rallied voters in two critical Midwestern battlegrounds.
In Ohio, Obama targeted Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for an advertising campaign that highlights the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent, Dr. Amy Acton. Despite calls from prominent Ohio Republicans, including Gov. Mike DeWine, to pull the controversial ad, both Trump and Vice President JD Vance have defended the campaign strategy.
Obama condemned the move, stating that there is no line Ramaswamy will not cross, noting that Acton has been transparent about her difficult childhood, which included experiences with abuse, neglect, and homelessness. Acton herself addressed the crowd, asserting that her opponent is exploiting her past to salvage a struggling campaign and declaring that decency remains a vital standard in public life.
Later in Detroit, Michigan, Obama defended Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed against political attacks regarding his name and faith. The former president drew parallels to his own political history, dismissing the criticism as a familiar tactic and affirming that El-Sayed shares his core values.
Addressing the broader political landscape, Obama criticized the president for his focus on personal projects, such as renovations to the White House, while failing to address the rising costs facing working families. He urged voters to use the upcoming November 3 election to reject what he described as two years of chaos, corruption, and incompetence.
