Knicks Address Championship Ring Controversy, Confirm Distribution Timeline for Staff
The New York Knicks clarify ring distribution plans after reports of staff confusion, confirming over 275 rings will be awarded to employees within 4-6 weeks.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — The New York Knicks organization is working to dispel what it characterizes as misinformation regarding the distribution of their 2025-26 championship rings. Officials confirmed on Saturday that staff members are scheduled to receive their commemorative jewelry within the next four to six weeks.
This announcement follows reports that assistant coaches and other personnel had not yet received the rings awarded to players during the team’s opening night ceremony against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 20, 2026. A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden stated that the organization has always planned to provide more than 275 rings, valued at over $3.7 million, to the various employees who contributed to the team’s first title since 1973.
The team also addressed a controversy involving a September email that promised employees a championship ring but instead directed them to a mandatory cybersecurity training session. While the organization maintained that educating staff on protecting intellectual property was a necessary priority, they admitted that using the championship ring as a lure for the training was a mistake and issued an apology to both fans and employees.
