Deep Purple Cancels Shows After Ian Gillan Hospitalized with Medical Emergency
Deep Purple announces cancellation of two shows due to Ian Gillan’s sudden hospitalization. Band promises rescheduling with no loss to ticket holders.
POLICY WIRE — Leipzig, Germany — The rock band Deep Purple has announced the cancellation of two upcoming shows due to a medical emergency involving their frontman, Ian Gillan.
The band issued a statement on Saturday, October 31, via their official Instagram page, confirming that Gillan is currently hospitalized. The nature of his medical condition has not been disclosed.
The canceled performances were scheduled for the QI Arena in Leipzig on Saturday and the Sporthalle in Hamburg on Sunday. ‘We understand the disappointment of our fans and are working to find new dates for these shows,’ the band stated.
Tickets for the canceled shows will remain valid for the rescheduled dates. The band’s management is committed to finding a suitable time to make the shows happen for their dedicated fans.
Deep Purple, a band founded in 1968, has seen several lineup changes over the years. Ian Gillan, the current frontman, joined the group in 1969, replacing the original singer, Rod Evans.
Earlier this year, former guitarist Ritchie Blackmore made a surprise appearance with the band, performing their iconic hit ‘Smoke on the Water.’ Blackmore, who left the band in 1993, shared his emotional return in an interview with Guitar Player, emphasizing the importance of reuniting with old friends.
Despite recent speculation about his retirement, Gillan has assured fans that the band is still performing energetically. He clarified that he will only consider stepping down if he feels he can no longer deliver the performances expected of him.
