POLICY WIRE — London, UK — Recent reports indicate that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has held discussions with Napoli and is receptive to taking on the role, yet his strong preference remains with Manchester City.
This development follows news of his former club, Chelsea, parting ways with his successor, Liam Rosenior, just four months after Maresca’s own departure on January 1. Sources, including Tuttomercatoweb, suggest that the Italian tactician has no intention of returning to Stamford Bridge and is actively preparing for his next career move, targeting the 2026-27 campaign.

Napoli Discussions Progress, But City Remains Priority
Over the past few days, Maresca reportedly met in London with representatives of Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis. This encounter is described as positive, with Maresca seemingly confirming his readiness to assume the managerial duties should current coach Antonio Conte decide to leave the club this summer.
“Maresca seemingly confirming he would be ready to accept the job if Antonio Conte walks away this summer.”
However, the landscape shifts considerably if Manchester City were to present a formal offer. Due to his significant history with the reigning Premier League champions, Maresca would prioritize any proposal from them.
His prior tenure at Manchester City included a crucial role as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola during the successful 2022-23 season. Before that, he honed his coaching skills with the club’s Under-23 squad.
Maresca’s only previous experience in Serie A as a head coach was a brief stint with Parma in 2021, where he oversaw merely 14 games.
