The attacker, who was carrying multiple weapons, knocked several volunteers to the ground before being apprehended, as stated by Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman Chris Anderson.

Acton herself was unharmed, but several others were injured in the incident. Addie Bullock, the campaign’s communications director, expressed gratitude for the quick response from law enforcement and offered prayers for the recovery of those hurt. Bullock emphasized that such acts of violence are unacceptable in Ohio and reaffirmed Acton’s commitment to standing against hate and division.

Amy Acton is running against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, who has leveraged his national profile, tech industry ties, and support from President Donald Trump to amass a significant fundraising total. Ramaswamy’s campaign has been using rallies and advertisements to critique Acton, who previously served as the state’s public health director.

The fairground’s police referred questions to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department, which did not immediately provide a comment. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also did not respond to requests for information.
