The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress approved their removal following investigations into suspected serious violations of discipline and law.

Zhang Youxia, who served as vice chair of the Central Military Commission, and Liu Zhenli, a lower member of the commission, were both under investigation. The Defense Ministry confirmed that authorities were probing Zhang and Liu for their alleged misconduct.

The removal of these top generals leaves the Central Military Commission, China’s top military body, with only Xi Jinping and one other known member. This move is part of a significant military shake-up and a corruption purge within the Chinese military.

The Xinhua news agency reported the news, citing the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The dismissals were announced by the “Reuters” agency.
