POLICY WIRE — Milan, Italy — Italian police have conducted raids on the offices of several prominent luxury brands, including Bulgari and Chanel, over allegations involving the exploitation of Chinese workers within their supply chains.
The operations, confirmed Thursday by Milan prosecutor Paolo Storari, were initiated based on suspicions that these companies utilized subcontractors who were allegedly employing Chinese workers under exploitative conditions. Storari corroborated information previously published by the business daily Il Sole 24 Ore.
Among the other luxury labels identified in the inquiries are Brunello Cucinelli, Etro, Goyard Italie, Jacob Cohen Company, Moncler, and Stefano Ricci. Prosecutors clarified that none of the nine aforementioned luxury brands are currently under direct investigation themselves.
