Michael Douglas shares his thoughts on Jack Nicholson, who has stepped back from the public eye. Learn more about their friendship and Jack’s current life.
POLICY WIRE — Swansea, United Kingdom — Michael Douglas has provided a rare insight into the life of his close friend, Jack Nicholson, who has largely disappeared from public view in recent years. During an appearance at an event in Swansea, where he was discussing his explosive new memoir, Douglas spoke candidly about Nicholson, the legendary actor who starred in the Douglas-produced masterpiece, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975.
“I would have liked to have acted with Jack,” Douglas reflected. He’s not working anymore. He’s well, but he has chosen to stay out of the spotlight. I know that, but I still see him. He’s up there by his house, walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. He’s a few years older than me, but I understand his choice, Douglas added.
Jack Nicholson, who turned 89 this year, has not appeared in a film since 2010’s How Do You Know and has rarely been photographed since. In April, Nicholson’s daughter, Lorraine, shared a rare photo of her father, showing him smiling while spending time with family and friends, including the renowned singer Joni Mitchell.
The photo received a warm response from fans, with one commenter expressing gratitude for the glimpse into the private life of the iconic actor: I appreciate the family sharing their Jack with all of us. There’s a world of fans who’ve been entertained and touched by his art, and it’s just effing cool to see him hanging with a fellow genius LA artist, Joni Mitchell. We cherish our great artists and wish them joyful days!
In a 2011 interview with Us Weekly, Lorraine Nicholson spoke fondly of her father’s influence on her acting career, describing him as her mentor and an inspiration. I’m going into the family business because we’re so close and he’s such an inspiration. I admire him so much, she said.
Jack Nicholson, a three-time Oscar winner, is one of Hollywood’s most celebrated figures, known for iconic roles in films such as Five Easy Pieces (1970), Chinatown (1974), Batman (1989), A Few Good Men (1992), and As Good as It Gets (1997).
Michael Douglas, 82, received an Oscar for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which also won Nicholson his first Best Actor Academy Award. In his memoir One Helluva Ride, Douglas delves into his personal life, including his marriage to Welsh actor Catherine Zeta-Jones and his past relationships with actors Kathleen Turner and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
