German Authorities Probe Security Breach at Leipzig/Halle Airport
German police are investigating a perimeter fence breach at Leipzig/Halle Airport after a vehicle reportedly rammed the barrier near Russian cargo planes.
POLICY WIRE — Frankfurt, Germany — German law enforcement officials launched an investigation on Sunday, October 18, following a security breach at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Authorities suspect a vehicle rammed through a perimeter fence during the overnight hours.
The damaged section of the fencing is situated in close proximity to several parked Russian Antonov cargo aircraft. The discovery of the breach triggered an immediate and extensive police operation across the airfield to secure the site.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the airport grounds following the incident. As of Sunday morning, police reported that no unauthorized individuals had been located on the premises.
This security event follows a separate incident in August, when investigators discovered a drone equipped with explosives near a runway at the same airport. German officials previously attributed that earlier event to Russian involvement.
