Russian Wealth Fund to Partner with US on Diesel Deal Payments, Says Dmitriev
Discover the latest on the US-Russia diesel agreement as Kirill Dmitriev announces sovereign wealth fund collaboration and upcoming Washington contracts.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — The United States Treasury has approached Russia’s sovereign wealth fund for assistance in resolving payment complications tied to a bilateral fuel agreement. The arrangement, struck between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, focuses on the commercial supply of Russian diesel.
Kirill Dmitriev, who serves as Putin’s investment envoy and heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, revealed the financial developments during an energy briefing on Friday. Dmitriev noted on Wednesday that Moscow expects to finalize formal contracts with Washington within the coming days to initiate the diesel exports.
The Kremlin envoy emphasized that the energy pact could serve as a foundational stepping stone for broader economic collaboration between Moscow and Washington. He stated that Russia is fully prepared to navigate and bypass sanctions-related hurdles to guarantee the successful delivery of the fuel.
According to Dmitriev, the energy arrangement acts as a conceptual blueprint for future partnerships and highlights the mutual advantages of bilateral economic engagement. US President Donald Trump previously announced the agreement to release Russian diesel stocks in an effort to curb high domestic fuel prices ahead of November’s midterm elections.
Media estimates indicate that the total volume of the diesel contracts amounts to roughly half a day of standard US consumption. Analysts also point out that achieving genuine market expansion depends heavily on broader geopolitical factors, such as a potential ceasefire halting mutual strikes on energy infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine.
