O’Charley’s Closes Final 49 Locations After 55-Year Run
O'Charley's shuts down final 49 locations after 55 years in business. Struggles with sales and shifting demographics led to closures.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — O’Charley’s, a once-thriving restaurant chain, has officially closed its last 49 company-owned locations after 55 years of operation. The closures mark the end of an era for the brand, which had previously operated 250 units at its peak.
The decision comes as part of a broader strategy by Cannae Holdings, the parent company of O’Charley’s, to shift focus toward sports and entertainment assets. CEO Ryan Caswell stated in February that the firm would prioritize higher-returning investments over its restaurant division, signaling a long-term plan to divest from the sector.

O’Charley’s had already shuttered more than 50 locations in 2023 due to declining sales and changing consumer habits. The chain reported a 13.1% drop in same-store sales during its second quarter, and several locations had been closed earlier this year. As of Saturday, the company’s website and social media platforms were no longer active, and automated messages confirmed the permanent closure of remaining outlets.
