Zelenskyy Denounces Russian Energy Strikes Despite Trump’s Ceasefire Claims
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy reports ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, challenging President Trump's claims of a negotiated ceasefire.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed sharp criticism regarding Russia’s persistent aerial bombardment of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, asserting that these strikes continue in direct contradiction to claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that a ceasefire had been established.
For three consecutive nights, Moscow has targeted Ukraine’s power grid and fuel facilities. This escalation follows President Trump’s recent assertion that both nations had reached an energy-focused truce, a claim that has yet to yield a tangible reduction in hostilities.
In response to the ongoing violence, Zelenskyy issued a public appeal for international intervention, urging global leaders to provide a forceful reaction to the sustained aerial barrages. He stated that Russia has effectively abandoned any path toward de-escalation, opting instead to pursue a campaign of destruction.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its forces conducted strikes against energy sites across Kyiv, the surrounding region, and Kharkiv, impacting six power plants. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported that these attacks left approximately 600,000 residents without electricity.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have raised concerns regarding the reliability of U.S. intelligence support. President Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv received no advance warning from international partners regarding the five ballistic missiles that recently struck civilian infrastructure in the capital.
