Pakistan has long been confronting the challenge of terrorism, particularly in its southwestern province of Balochistan. In recent years, this threat has become more organised and aggressive, with security institutions identifying the involvement of foreign-sponsored terrorist networks. Among these, groups collectively referred to as Fitna al Hindustan are described by Pakistani authorities as Indian-backed proxies working to destabilise the country and spread fear among its people.
Fitna al Hindustan is a term used by Pakistan’s security establishment to describe terrorist organisations that receive external support in the form of funding, training, weapons, and intelligence. These terrorists deliberately target security forces, civilians, and development projects, with the aim of disrupting peace and slowing progress in the region. Balochistan, due to its strategic importance and ongoing development initiatives, has been a frequent target of such terrorist activities.
In the last week of January 2026, Pakistan’s security forces significantly intensified intelligence-based operations in Balochistan. Acting on precise intelligence, operations were conducted in districts including Harnai and Panjgur. As a result, 41 terrorists linked to Fitna al Hindustan were eliminated, and large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered. These successful operations demonstrated the professionalism, preparedness, and commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces to neutralise threats before they could harm civilians.
Despite these decisive actions, terrorist groups attempted to strike back. Today, Balochistan witnessed a wave of coordinated terrorist attacks, marking one of the most serious attempts in recent months to disrupt law and order. Terrorists launched simultaneous assaults at around 12 locations across the province, targeting police stations, security checkpoints, and government installations. The objective was clear: to create panic, weaken state authority, and threaten the safety of ordinary citizens.
Pakistan’s security forces responded immediately and decisively. Units of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, and police forces engaged the terrorists in intense operations across multiple areas. Due to their swift action and bravery, the attacks were successfully foiled. Between 37 and 58 terrorists were killed during these engagements, preventing large-scale destruction and loss of civilian life. Sadly, ten brave security personnel were martyred while defending the nation, making the ultimate sacrifice to protect their fellow citizens.
The scale and coordination of today’s attacks further strengthened Pakistan’s stance that Fitna al Hindustan operates with external backing. Security officials maintain that such synchronised attacks across multiple districts require planning, logistics, and support that go beyond local capabilities. Pakistan has repeatedly stated that India uses such proxy terrorist groups as part of a broader strategy to destabilise Pakistan internally, allegations which India denies.
At the same time, Pakistan continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to countering terrorism. The country conducts thousands of intelligence-based operations every year, many of which successfully prevent attacks before they occur. These efforts involve close coordination between military intelligence, law-enforcement agencies, and provincial authorities. The Pakistan Armed Forces remain at the forefront of this fight, operating in difficult terrain and under constant threat to ensure the safety of the population.
These actions are part of a wider national counter-terrorism vision known as Azm-e-Istehkam, meaning “resolve for stability.” The initiative focuses on eliminating terrorists, dismantling their support networks, and ensuring that they cannot regroup. Alongside security measures, the strategy also supports development, education, and infrastructure projects so that terrorism cannot take root in neglected areas.
Terrorist violence has a deep impact on everyday life in Balochistan. Attacks disrupt schools, hospitals, businesses, and transport, creating fear and uncertainty for families. Pakistan’s leadership has repeatedly emphasised that the fight against terrorism is not just about security, but about protecting the right of every citizen to live with dignity and peace. This is why security forces continue to operate relentlessly, even at great personal cost.
The events of today clearly show both the seriousness of the terrorist threat and the strength of Pakistan’s response. While the loss of security personnel is deeply painful for the nation, their courage ensured that countless innocent lives were saved. Their sacrifice stands as a reminder of the price paid to keep the country safe.
In conclusion, Pakistan remains firm in its determination to defeat terrorism in all its forms. Groups operating under the banner of Fitna al Hindustan have failed to break the resolve of the nation. Through professionalism, intelligence-driven operations, and the unmatched bravery of its armed forces and law-enforcement agencies, Pakistan continues to protect its citizens and move forward toward lasting peace and stability.
