POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has denied allegations that it issued an order to halt all federal class discrimination complaints. The agency is currently under scrutiny for allegedly pausing a sexual harassment case involving female prison guards.
The EEOC stated that an administrative judge made an error in halting the case. “The EEOC did not issue any such order. The action taken was an error by an administrative judge,” an agency spokesperson said.
The sexual harassment complaint, filed on behalf of female prison guards, has garnered significant attention. Critics argue that the pause in proceedings undermines the agency’s commitment to addressing workplace discrimination.
In a statement, the EEOC emphasized its continued dedication to enforcing anti-discrimination laws. “The EEOC remains committed to vigorously enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws and ensuring that all individuals have equal employment opportunities,” the agency said.
This development comes amid heightened public and political scrutiny of federal agencies’ handling of discrimination cases. The EEOC’s clarification aims to address concerns about the integrity and effectiveness of its processes.
