U.S. Air Force Withdraws Bombers from UK Base Amid Suspected Terror Plot

POLICY WIRE — Washington, United States — The U.S. Air Force has withdrawn all of its bomber aircraft from RAF Fairford, a military airfield in England that has served as a key operations hub for strikes against Iran.

The move follows an investigation into a suspected terror plot targeting the base. Officials emphasized that the Airmen responsible for operating the B-1, B-2, and B-52 bombers remain fully capable of conducting precision global strikes from within the continental United States.

Aviation analysts have tracked numerous B-52 and B-1 bombers departing from RAF Fairford since the start of the conflict with Iran. Recent activity included a series of B-1 flights on Sunday. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump continues to consider potential new military actions against Iran, despite earlier assurances that the campaign would be brief.

During a press appearance, Trump stated, We have decisions that I’ll make about Iran. Iran’s been decimated. So the only question is — it’ll either be the easy way, or the hard way.

A dual British-Iranian national was detained in London last week on suspicion of planning a terror attack, following a security incident at RAF Fairford in late September. At least six individuals were arrested and later released on bail during the probe. British authorities have linked the event to Iran, which has denied any involvement.

RAF Fairford, located 100 miles west of London, has long served as a strategic location for American military operations in the Middle East. Despite the withdrawal of bombers, the U.S. military continues to maintain a strong presence in the region. A recent announcement confirmed that the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Malkin Island amphibious readiness group are en route to the area, with the possibility of three carriers being stationed there by the end of October.
