POLICY WIRE — Kansas City, USA — None of the previous four NASCAR Cup Series champions managed to secure more than four victories throughout their entire championship-winning season.
This fact powerfully highlights the extraordinary run currently being delivered by Tyler Reddick. The driver for the 23XI Racing team, co-owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin, achieved his fifth victory of the current season on Sunday. His triumph at Kansas Speedway came after a dramatic last-lap overtake of the reigning series champion and previous race winner, Kyle Larson.
This recent win is not merely Reddick’s fifth of the season; it’s his fifth in just nine races. This impressive frequency of victories has only been matched four times in NASCAR’s premier series, with the last instance dating back to Dale Earnhardt‘s remarkable start to the 1987 season. Earnhardt proceeded to clinch an additional six wins that year, securing the third of his eventual seven championships, and there appears to be little indicating Reddick cannot emulate such an outstanding feat.
“It’s still very early,” Reddick commented following a post-race celebration with Jordan. “Certainly, over these next seventeen races before the playoffs, those who are slightly off their game will begin to find their rhythm. I anticipate the competition will intensify significantly as the year progresses. Our team has done an exceptional job of maximizing our performance on race days.”
Reddick’s Pursuit of the Championship
Reddick is also accumulating a substantial number of championship points. The restructured postseason format grants a considerable advantage to the driver leading the standings before the playoffs commence, and Reddick currently holds a commanding lead over Hamlin and the rest of the field. “We’ll just aim to establish as comfortable a lead as possible,” he stated. “If we can maintain this kind of margin as the season progresses, it will ideally position us to capitalize on opportunities for more wins, particularly through split-strategy calls during the middle or late stages of races.”

The Strength of 23XI Racing
However, Tyler Reddick isn’t the sole component firing on all cylinders; his entire 23XI Racing team is demonstrating remarkable momentum. Teammate Bubba Wallace maintained a strong presence near the front for most of Sunday’s race, ultimately securing a fifth-place finish. Riley Herbst placed fourteenth, just ahead of Corey Heim, who made a guest appearance in the No. 67 car for the first time since the season-opening Daytona 500 and displayed comparable speed.
This represents an exceptionally strong showing for a race organization that is only in its sixth year of operation. “Our pit crews have made significant strides forward,” remarked Steve Lauletta, president of 23XI. “Everyone dedicated themselves in the offseason to refining our procedures and communication. We are only nine races into our sixth season; there remains considerable work to be accomplished.” Such team-wide improvements are often the cornerstone of sustained success, reflecting a collective drive seen across various professional sports, including a recent thrilling OKC Thunder Playoff Win.
Nevertheless, the commitment to improvement is clearly yielding impressive results. After achieving three victories in 2024, Reddick experienced a winless season in 2025. In 2025, Wallace secured the team’s sole win at the Brickyard 400, suggesting an organization that seemed to be progressing had perhaps plateaued. Now, 23XI operates on an entirely different competitive plane, a level that currently appears unmatched by others.
“It’s incredibly gratifying,” Lauletta expressed. “It wasn’t just [Reddick] not winning, right? As an organization, we only won one race. It was the Brickyard, which was great. There were no heads being hung. It was just more the attitude of, ‘We’ve got to get to work,’ and that was across the board. Many excellent developments are occurring overall, which began with the foundational work we undertook in the offseason to ensure we would reach our desired position as an organization this year.”
Sustained Excellence and Future Outlook
Their aspiration was to be at the forefront, and Reddick consistently delivers this performance each week. Beyond his five victories, he was a strong contender for a win a few weeks prior at Bristol, ultimately finishing fourth. He also secured another top-10 result at Phoenix and has maintained a top-15 finish, remaining on the lead lap, in every one of the first nine races this season.
The upcoming challenge is at Talladega, a track where Reddick claimed victory just a couple of years ago.
“When you win, it’s always fun,” Jordan commented on Sunday. “Right now, it’s enjoyable for everyone at 23XI. Being here [in Kansas] and witnessing all the wins, I’m so happy for the team. I just believe we must continue to build on this, without a doubt.”
