Trump Announces Temporary Relief on Russia Sanctions to Boost Global Diesel Supply
Trump eases Russia sanctions to release diesel fuel, aiming to curb rising global prices. Details here.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would immediately release hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel fuel into the global market.
The move, shared on Truth Social, aims to alleviate the sharp increase in diesel prices that have surged nearly 70% since the conflict in Iran began in February. The Treasury Department also revealed it would temporarily ease sanctions on Russia through April 7, allowing the sale and importation of Russian diesel fuel.

A Treasury document stated that diesel fuel from the Russian Federation can be sold, delivered, or imported—including into the United States—until 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on April 7, 2027. This follows recent escalations in the Russia-Ukraine war, which have driven diesel prices to record highs, despite a previous export ban imposed by Moscow in July that was extended through October.
