POLICY WIRE — Seattle, USA — The Seattle Mariners have moved third baseman Brendan Donovan to the 10-day injured list, effective retroactively to Saturday, due to a left groin muscle strain.
Donovan’s departure from Friday’s 5-0 defeat against the Texas Rangers was precipitated by a left hip ailment. For two weeks, the athlete has also been contending with discomfort in his right groin, an issue he suspects may stem from an athletic hernia operation he underwent on October 7.
“This is a situation that demands close observation and continuous monitoring,” stated manager Dan Wilson on Saturday. “It was a significant surgical procedure, and he commendably navigated his recovery, made it to spring training, and successfully completed a gradual ramp-up. Now that we are into the regular season, ongoing assessment remains paramount.”
The 29-year-old infielder has maintained a strong batting average of .304 this season, accumulating three home runs, eight runs batted in (RBIs), and drawing nine walks across 18 appearances. His arrival to the Mariners followed a three-team trade in February that involved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Mariners Promote Infielder Will Wilson
In a corresponding roster adjustment, the Mariners have officially added infielder Will Wilson, aged 27, by selecting his contract from their Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma. Wilson, a first-round selection in the 2019 amateur draft, previously made his major league debut last season with the Cleveland Guardians.
During his tenure with the Guardians, Wilson recorded a .192 batting average, contributing four doubles, two RBIs, and two stolen bases over 34 games. Seattle brought him into the organization on a minor league contract in January, which included an invitation to spring training. In 14 games played with Tacoma, he has posted a .275 average, tallying one home run and four RBIs.
The ongoing dynamics of player performance and roster management are a constant in professional sports, much like the intense debates surrounding sports commentator controversies.
Utility Infielder Miles Mastrobuoni Moved to 60-Day IL
Furthermore, utility infielder Miles Mastrobuoni has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. The 30-year-old began the current season on the 10-day IL after sustaining a calf injury while representing Italy in the World Baseball Classic. Last season, in a part-time role, Mastrobuoni achieved a .250 batting average with one home run and 12 RBIs across 152 at-bats.
