POLICY WIRE — Middlesbrough, UK — In response to a series of violent incidents, Cleveland Police have received support from over 200 additional officers. These reinforcements aim to ensure the safety of residents following a spate of violence that has claimed nine lives.

Among the incidents, a tragic house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, resulted in the deaths of a woman and a seven-year-old girl on Wednesday. This occurred just a mile from another incident where two police officers and five young men perished in a head-on car crash.

Alec Brown, the leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, confirmed that more than 200 extra police officers have been deployed from various regions to assist Cleveland Police. The council and police force are working together to address the escalating situation and protect the community.
