Kremlin Confirms Government Review of Yandex’s Data Center Damage After Ukrainian Strikes
Kremlin confirms government review of Yandex's data center damage after Ukrainian drone strikes. Disruption impacts Russia's tech giant and daily life.
POLICY WIRE — Moscow, Russia — The Kremlin has confirmed that officials are evaluating the challenges faced by Russian technology company Yandex following a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on its data centers.
The attacks targeted three of Yandex’s six facilities, located in Sasovo, Kaluga, and Vladimir. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the government is closely monitoring the situation as the company deals with operational setbacks.
Ukraine claimed the strikes were retaliation for Russian attacks on its own data infrastructure. The damage has led to significant disruptions across Russia, with Yandex, often referred to as Russia’s Google, struggling to maintain services. Some data centers have been temporarily shut down, affecting internet access and digital operations nationwide.
