POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A 40-year-old man is facing murder charges after allegedly beating a two-month-old girl to death in a fit of jealousy, according to prosecutors.

Demetrius Beatty is accused of fatally injuring Khamyah Honesty, a premature twin, who was found unconscious with severe facial bruising and head trauma. The baby later died at Children’s National Hospital on August 17. Forensic evidence revealed non-accidental injuries that could not have been caused by a young child, including fractures to her forehead, back of the head, and under her chin.

Beatty allegedly blamed his six-year-old autistic son for the infant’s injuries during a 911 call, claiming the boy had “damaged” the baby. He also provided conflicting accounts to police, including saying he was in the hallway or that another child had tossed the infant. His defense argued he had no history of abuse, but the court denied pretrial release due to his prior probation violation.
