POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — A recent report reveals that Katie Miller engaged in a vigorous campaign to ensure her husband, Stephen Miller, secured the influential position of White House chief of staff.
The lobbying efforts followed significant Republican defeats in the Tuesday midterm elections. Mrs. Miller reportedly reached out to various allies and administration officials to urge they back her husband as the successor to Susie Wiles, provided he was deemed a better fit than other contenders.
By Friday, Stephen Miller was officially appointed to the top post. President Donald Trump confirmed that Wiles, who held the longest tenure as chief of staff, would depart to make way for Miller, who served as her deputy and was the primary designer of the administration’s strict immigration agenda.
Reports suggest the President’s dissatisfaction with Wiles had grown over several months. Her departure became inevitable after Democrats captured both the House and the Senate in the midterm contests.
One source informed Politico that the President began signaling his intention to move on from Wiles as a direct result of the heavy election losses.
According to sources, Katie Miller—a podcast host and former consultant for Elon Musk—did not attempt to remove Wiles initially. Instead, she only began advocating for her husband once it was evident that Wiles’s exit was certain.
Mrs. Miller conducted approximately six calls to individuals close to the President, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and various associates of Vice President JD Vance. She argued that her husband was the right choice to take over the role. One source noted she asked the recipients to share that specific message.
While Katie Miller did not provide a comment to Politico, she posted a message on X following the publication, stating that it is natural for a wife to support her husband and suggesting others find new wives if they would not do the same.
The mother of four recently mentioned to CBS News that she did not vote on Election Day, claiming that mothers are too occupied with childcare to visit the polling stations.
In response to the report, the White House defended Stephen Miller as a vital figure within the administration. Spokesperson Lauren Bis stated that Miller has been essential to the President’s America First agenda since the beginning, leading efforts in crime reduction, energy deregulation, dismantling drug cartels, and border security.
Miller is viewed as a much more divisive figure than Wiles, given his role in shaping controversial policies such as deportation efforts and efforts to eliminate birthright citizenship. A source near the White House indicated that the personnel change signaled to the MAGA base that the administration is listening.
Democrats on Capitol expressed sharp disapproval of the promotion. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries posted on X, calling Miller a reckless extremist with blood on his hands and stating that his presence in government should be removed like a tumor.
