Trump Cuts Ties with Ex-Fiancée After Alleged Funds-for-Access Scandal
Trump distances from ex-fiancée after scandal. Guilfoyle denied allegations of seeking $100k for AMEX bill.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump has distanced himself from his son’s former fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, following her abrupt exit as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid a controversy involving alleged funds-for-access dealings.
Guilfoyle was asked to resign after reports surfaced that she allegedly sought $100,000 from a Trump donor to settle an American Express debt. The incident came just days before her Senate confirmation hearing for the ambassadorial role in July 2025, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, confirmed the move during her first briefing, stating, “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.” When questioned about the allegations, the president said he didn’t like what we were reading, adding that Guilfoyle had “dated my son a long time ago” but was not a family member.
