Jeremy Renner Confirms Hawkeye Absent From Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel star Jeremy Renner confirms he will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, joking that the superheroes are going to lose without Hawkeye.
POLICY WIRE — Liverpool, United Kingdom — Actor Jeremy Renner has definitively ruled out any appearance in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, offering a humorous warning that the remaining superheroes are probably going to lose without his character.
Renner has portrayed Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, across the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his debut in the 2011 film Thor. He subsequently reprised the skilled archer role in The Avengers in 2012, Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Captain America: Civil War in 2016, and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
His tenure in the franchise also includes voicing the character in the 2021 film Black Widow and headlining the Disney+ streaming series Hawkeye later that same year alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. While speaking at Comic Con Liverpool, Renner addressed his absence from the upcoming crossover event by telling attendees that Marvel simply never reached out to him.
Doomsday, I am not in, so the Avengers will probably lose, just so you know, Renner joked during the convention. They did not call me, so it is their fault they’re gonna lose, he added with a laugh.
Despite missing out on the upcoming ensemble film, the Mayor of Kingstown actor expressed enthusiasm about taking his daughter to see the theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame. The encore screening introduces roughly four minutes of additional footage, featuring a sequence where Tom Hiddleston’s Loki interacts with Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, and Peggy Carter, portrayed by Hayley Atwell, alongside post-credit scenes that tease Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
The updated theatrical run launched with an estimated $86m globally, tacking an extra $126m onto the feature’s lifetime box office gross. This push brought its total earnings to approximately $2.925bn, allowing it to surpass Avatar and reclaim its spot as the highest-grossing film in cinema history.
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the studio’s most ambitious crossovers to date, uniting characters from three separate universes to face Doctor Doom. The massive cast roster will feature original X-Men cast members such as Patrick Stewart returning as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops, alongside members of the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and the Wakandans.
Talks surrounding a potential second season of the Hawkeye series hit a roadblock last year after Disney reportedly offered Renner half of the compensation he received for the first season. Speaking on the High Performance podcast in May 2025, the actor expressed his frustration over the reduced financial offer following the near-fatal snowmobile accident in January 2023 that left him with more than 30 broken bones and requiring an emergency airlift to the hospital.
I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? he questioned during the podcast interview, though he emphasized that he still loves the character and remains open to a comeback while asserting his need to stand his ground. I did not ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made the first season!
Back in July of last year, Renner shared with Empire magazine that he always enjoys working within the Marvel ecosystem and felt confident that the studio would eventually move forward with a second season. My body is getting ready for something like that, he noted at the time regarding a potential physical return to the role. I do not know if anybody wants to see me in tights but my body will look good in the tights.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit movie theaters on December 16, 2026.
