Houthi Rebels Report Airstrikes in Yemen Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
Houthi rebels claim Saudi airstrikes hit Yemen, while Egypt and Iran push for de-escalation. Global economic concerns rise as energy prices surge.
POLICY WIRE — Aden, Yemen — Houthi rebels in Yemen have accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes along the northern border and western coastline, escalating tensions in the region. The attacks come amid ongoing conflict between the Houthis and Saudi-led coalition.
The rebel-run al-Masirah satellite television reported that two airstrikes targeted the Houthi-held Red Sea island of Kamaran, while a third struck Qanawis district near Hodeida. The station also claimed strikes in the province of Jawf, which borders Saudi Arabia. No immediate response from Saudi authorities has been released.
International airlines were warned by Yemen’s Houthi-controlled Foreign Ministry that flights to Saudi airports are “unsafe” except for those serving Mecca and Medina. Meanwhile, Egypt’s foreign minister called for an end to Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, urging diplomatic solutions to prevent further regional instability.
