Volkswagen and Stellantis Boost EV Confidence with Chinese Partnerships
Volkswagen and Stellantis boost EV confidence through Chinese partnerships, aiming to strengthen European manufacturing amid rising competition.
POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining European production capacity by forming strategic alliances with Chinese automakers during the Paris Automotive Summit. The move comes as the industry faces mounting pressure to adapt to shifting market demands.
Filosa outlined plans to collaborate with firms like Leapmotor and Dongfeng to optimize factory use and align production with consumer needs. This strategy aims to avoid plant closures while leveraging Chinese technological expertise and expanding access to affordable electric vehicles in Europe.
In addition to these partnerships, Stellantis is investing heavily in battery production and shared platforms to streamline operations. The FaSTLAne 2030 initiative includes a €60 billion investment, with 40% allocated to cross-brand technologies and 60% directed toward individual brand development. Filosa also called for swift regulatory adjustments to support European manufacturing amid growing competition from Chinese automakers.
