Nuremberg Airport Temporarily Closed Amid Aviation Emergency
Nuremberg airport suspends flights due to suspected in-flight emergency. Pilots report drone sighting, planes diverted to nearby cities.
POLICY WIRE — Nuremberg, Germany — Nuremberg Airport has halted all flight operations following a reported aviation emergency, according to officials on Tuesday. The closure came after pilots observed an object near the airfield, raising concerns about potential safety risks.
The airport confirmed the suspension on its website, stating, “Due to an in-flight emergency, flight operations are currently suspended.” Scheduled flights were redirected to Frankfurt, Memmingen, Stuttgart, and Munich. Local media reported that the Special Deployment Commando (SEK) has been deployed at the site as part of the ongoing investigation.
A police spokesperson confirmed the closure, noting a “suspected aviation emergency” was the cause. While details remain limited, authorities have indicated they are working to assess the situation and provide further updates. A plane from the Greek island of Corfu reportedly landed safely in Nuremberg after being escorted by a fighter jet.
