POLICY WIRE — Coalsnaughton, Clackmannanshire — Authorities have announced the demolition of two streets in the former mining village of Coalsnaughton due to significant ground movement associated with historical coal mining operations.

Sixty homes located on Benbuck View and Dunmoss View are slated for demolition. This decision follows the evacuation of almost 100 homes in May for safety reasons after cracks appeared in houses, roads, paths, and gardens.

Residents have expressed profound distress over the necessity to demolish their homes. More than 250 residents have been displaced since the ground movement was first detected in May.

The ground movement has caused slabs to buckle, driveways to slope, and cracks to form in some homes, prompting the evacuation of nearly 100 residents.
