Cuba Alleges U.S. Complicity in Terrorism Following Speedboat Raid
Cuban officials accuse the U.S. of allowing anti-Cuban groups to operate with impunity after a violent speedboat incursion led to a gun battle.
POLICY WIRE — Havana, Cuba — Cuban law enforcement authorities leveled serious accusations against the United States on Monday, claiming that Washington is permitting terrorist organizations to function without consequence on American territory.
The allegations stem from an investigation into a February speedboat incursion that resulted in a violent gun battle. Officials pointed to the incident as evidence that anti-Cuban factions are utilizing the U.S. as a base for destabilizing operations.
In a formal statement, de Cossio asserted that anti-Cuban groups operating within the United States resort to terrorism as an expression of their hatred of Cuba and the impunity they believe they enjoy. The Cuban government further accused the Trump administration of tolerating armed infiltrations and the financing of operations aimed at destabilizing the nation, citing the Villa Clara boat incident and the subsequent arrest of 10 Panamanian nationals.
The diplomatic friction follows reports from Santa Clara, where Cuban exiles wounded during the attack on the Florida-registered vessel were treated at a provincial hospital. The Cuban regime maintains that these groups continue to operate freely, posing a direct threat to national security.
