POLICY WIRE — Yelm, Washington — A 54-year-old Civil War reenactor was located days after vanishing from a Labor Day weekend event, still clad in his Confederate Army uniform.
Thomas Goodwin disappeared on the night of September 5 in Yelm, a town about 40 minutes southwest of Tacoma. He was last seen walking along George Road in a gray jacket and blue pants, which are typical of Confederate soldiers’ attire, carrying a Civil War-era rifle in a sling.

A motorcyclist spotted Goodwin asking for assistance and alerted emergency services. When responders arrived, they found him in the same reenactment outfit. He was discovered approximately half a mile from where he was last seen, in an area with dense vegetation. Authorities confirmed he was dehydrated but otherwise unharmed, though it remains unclear how he became lost or what he did during the six days he was missing.
