In a marvelous display of statesmanship and commitment to peace and stability in the region, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif, once again proved the significance of the country as a beacon of peace and diplomacy in the face of growing tensions in the Middle East region. On this auspicious occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, the Prime Minister made some thought-provoking phone calls to some of the prominent leaders of the region and passionately urged them to reduce tensions immediately and adopt diplomacy as a way forward to resolve their issues.
This is a proactive move at a critical juncture as the conflict between Iran and the Gulf States has escalated with the exchange of missiles and drones, strikes on each other’s oil installations, and disruption of vital oil route through the Strait of Hormuz. Although the conflict, which began at the end of February 2026, is a cause of great concern, Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Sharif is not taking the situation lying down. Rather, the country is taking a bold initiative to become the champion of peace by relying on the long-standing relationships with the Gulf states, as well as with Turkey and other Muslim states.
In the course of the phone call between the two leaders, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, issues such as the ongoing hostilities in Iran and the Gulf region were discussed. During the phone call, the two leaders “firmly emphasized the need for an immediate de-escalation and the use of dialogue and diplomacy for the resolution of all disputes,” as highlighted in the official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. This is the stand of the Pakistani government that only peace and understanding can safeguard the future of the region and the Muslim Ummah. War and hostilities do not benefit anyone.
In fact, the diplomatic process undertaken by the Prime Minister of the country, Shehbaz Sharif, was as smooth as a process with a number of other prominent figures as well, which once again indicates the highly influential and respectable voice of the country. As a matter of fact, during the dialogue with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the discussion was focused on the changing situation in the region, and both sides agreed strongly on the immediate need for establishing diplomacy to bring peace and stability to the Middle East. During his talks with Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attacks on brotherly Muslim countries, reaffirming the unwavering solidarity of the country with the affected nations, and passionately called for restraint and dialogue to resolve the situation immediately. He also warmly appreciated the positive efforts of the Turkish government towards the broader cause of peace, including the valuable efforts made towards the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan. With these talks with prominent world leaders, the country once again reflects its unmatched potential to create bridges, promote unity among Muslim countries, and promote the cause of peace with wisdom, dignity, and genuine concern for the region.
These were no mere formalities, but a calculated and strategic move to showcase Pakistan’s commitment to the unity and harmony of the Muslim world. With his extension of Eid greetings and his attempts to resolve critical geopolitical issues, Prime Minister has been brilliant in his attempts to merge culture and religion with hard-hitting diplomacy, winning praise throughout the region for his wisdom and foresight.
In an era where energy prices are rising and tensions escalating, it is imperative that the world listen to Pakistan’s cries for calm. Pakistan’s attempts at extending Eid greetings have been timely and a reflection of their unyielding spirit of brotherhood and resilience.
In these difficult times, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan once again proves its status as a pillar of stability and peace, and a true friend to all nations within the Muslim world and beyond. The visionary diplomacy of the Prime Minister, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif, deserves full praise and support in its tireless efforts to guide the region towards calmer waters.
