In a touching display of solidarity and commitment to humanitarian work, the Saudi Arabia-based King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has successfully completed the final stage of its “Economic Empowerment of Vulnerable Households in Pakistan through Livestock Provision” project. Launched in October 2025, this project, conducted with the active support of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government’s Relief, Rehabilitation, and Settlement Department (RRSD), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and the local Peace and Development Organization (PADO), has distributed 500 head of cattle and two bags of silage to the deserving citizens of the Charsadda, Mardan, and Nowshera districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. In this regard, 200, 150, and 150 head of cattle have been distributed to the deserving people of the aforementioned districts. In addition to this, 40 comprehensive training sessions have also been conducted, which have benefited approximately 3,570 people.
This project is more than merely charity; it is a living example of the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, especially when naysayers have occasionally doubted the strength of this friendship.
A Legacy of Brotherhood: Historical Foundations of Pakistan-Saudi Ties
The relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has been very good since Pakistan gained independence in 1947. The foundation of this relationship has been the religious, cultural, and geopolitical ties between the two countries. Saudi Arabia has been a source of immense help to Pakistan in its moments of need, and this has been in the form of economic assistance in the shape of loans, deferred payments for oil imports, and remittances from millions of Pakistani nationals living in the Kingdom. Conversely, Pakistan has been providing military assistance in the form of thousands of troops deployed in the Kingdom for training and defense.
In 2024-2025, Saudi Arabia had entered into over 34 agreements worth more than $2.8 billion with Pakistan in different fields, which proves that their friendship is very good. This proves that Saudi Arabia regards Pakistan as a powerful military, economic, and geo-strategic ally in achieving its Vision 2030.
From Defense Pacts to Economic Frameworks
The extent of cooperation between the two nations over the past year has been record-breaking, and it directly contradicts the notion of strained relations between the two nations. In September 2025, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), where both nations have agreed that an attack on either of them will be considered an attack on both. This agreement, which has been signed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh, has formalized decades of military cooperation between the two nations.
On this basis, the debate over the trilateral defense agreement with Turkey has been taken to the next step, and the agreement is already in the works after almost a year of negotiations. This particular agreement involves defense industrial cooperation, including the joint manufacturing of fighter jets and helicopters, and will be financially backed by Saudi Arabia while being technically supported by Pakistan and Turkey. In economic cooperation, another strategic agreement is also in the works to further boost trade, investments, and digital facilitation, following the signing of the defense agreement.
In the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the region, Pakistan reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia. In March 2026, Prime Minister Sharif held discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. In this regard, he reaffirmed his “full support in these challenging times” and promised to cooperate in attaining peace in the Middle East. Talks between Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman have further cemented this relationship.
KSrelief: The Humanitarian Pillar of Enduring Friendship
These activities of KSrelief are a reflection of Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to Pakistan. Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has successfully implemented 252 projects in Pakistan worth over $184 million. In 2026, KSrelief launched a huge food basket distribution drive to 27,500 people across 30 districts of Pakistan. This is in addition to other activities such as providing shelter to those who need it during winter and working hand-in-hand with UNICEF to ensure child welfare in flood-affected areas.
The livestock project of KSrelief is particularly significant to Pakistan as the country is prone to natural calamities such as floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This initiative is particularly significant to ensure self-sufficiency of the people of Pakistan living in rural areas, as envisioned under Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian vision.
The completion of KSrelief’s livestock project is not just significant to the people of Pakistan but also serves as a befitting reply to those who doubted the friendship of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, proving that the friendship of these two countries is a beacon of hope in an uncertain world. As these two countries look to the future, they will continue to make significant strides towards peace and prosperity.
