Democrats Unseat Over 30 Republican Incumbents in 2026 Midterm Landslide
Democrats oust over 30 Republican incumbents, secure 250+ House seats, flip seven Senate races and win key governorships in a historic 2026 midterm wave.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C., USA — Democrats have eliminated at least 30 Republican incumbents across the nation, delivering a sweeping victory that reshapes the 2026 midterm landscape.
Projections place Democrats above the 250-seat threshold in the House, marking the most substantial majority for the party since the 2008 cycle.
The party also captured seven Senate seats, turned roughly 30 House districts, secured five governorships and took control of up to a dozen state legislative chambers, cementing a historic partisan shift.
On Tuesday, Democrats clinched the House by flipping more than two dozen seats previously held by Republicans, including long‑standing swing districts and areas once deemed solidly red.
A notable upset saw moderate Democrat Conley, a former national‑security aide in the Biden administration, defeat Republican Lawler in one of the least‑red GOP‑rated districts.
In Wisconsin, Democratic challengers unseated GOP incumbents in both the 1st and 3rd congressional districts, with Rebecca Cooke besting Rep. Derrick Van Orden by just over six percentage points.
