Jesse Watters Predicts GOP Senate Losses as Trump Criticizes Fox News Ratings
Fox News host Jesse Watters expresses concern over potential midterm losses while Donald Trump slams the network's ratings and specific Democratic contributors.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — Fox News personality Jesse Watters expressed significant pessimism regarding the Republican outlook on Tuesday night, suggesting a potential defeat before the final votes were even cast.
During a segment on The Five on Tuesday night, Watters admitted he did not feel good about the situation. He compared the electoral climate to entering a game he knew was destined to lose, noting his goal was to avoid damage.
Watters noted that ‘damage’ would translate to losing control of the Senate, stating that the chamber is currently highly contested and causing him considerable anger.
To seize the majority, Democrats need to capture four Senate seats and three House of Representatives seats. President Donald Trump has been active in the campaign, holding frequent rallies in traditionally Republican areas where Democratic polling has shown unexpected strength.
The political tension appears to have caused friction between Trump and the network where Watters frequently appears. Watters remarked that the negative shift was expected and that the real question was simply how severe the outcome would be.
While Trump has encouraged supporters to act as if his name were on the ballot, Watters voiced doubt that the Republican base is fully convinced by this directive.
Watters shared an anecdote regarding two middle-aged white contractors at his residence who had not yet voted by Tuesday. He claimed he urged them to leave and cast their ballots, but they did not move because they lacked a clear plan.
The host argued that if Trump were actually on the ballot, those individuals would have already voted. He suggested that the public is merely pretending the president is on the ballot when, internally, everyone knows he is not.
Trump was reportedly watching the network on Tuesday but claimed he switched the television off because he could not tolerate the voice of contributor Jessica Tarlov.
On Truth Social, Trump attacked Tarlov, calling her unintelligent and stating her voice was the reason he was switching channels. He indicated he would find other programming until she was removed from air.
Tarlov had previously responded on the Pod Save America podcast by questioning why the president was not more occupied, suggesting there were more productive uses for his time.
In a subsequent post, Trump blamed Fox News for declining viewership ratings, claiming they have dropped by 27 percent due to excessive coverage of what he called Trump deranged Democrats.
The president asserted that former viewers are leaving the platform and that his own popularity numbers are at record highs. He attributed the network’s struggling ratings to its perceived opposition to him.
An exit poll from CBS News indicated that Trump holds a 38 percent approval rating, which represents the lowest figure for any sitting president during a midterm cycle.
