POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — As millions of Americans headed to polls on Election Day, President Donald Trump utilized Truth Social to launch a series of aggressive criticisms against Fox News, a network he has historically favored.
The president targeted a female-leaning commentator, questioned the validity of the network’s internal polling, and asserted that viewership is crashing specifically due to a perceived opposition to his administration. Simultaneously, he shifted his focus to CNN, sharing and amplifying video segments from the network’s lead data analyst.
This public hostility toward Fox News occurs as current data suggests the Republican Party could suffer significant defeats in the midterms, potentially losing control of both the House and Senate. These projections come amidst widespread voter dissatisfaction regarding inflation and the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Despite the unfavorable polling, a White House official told The Independent on Tuesday that the administration remains cautiously optimistic. The representative noted that the president has exerted his maximum effort and completed all necessary tasks for the campaign.
Shortly before the first polls closed on Tuesday, Trump posted a message criticizing Jessica Tarlov, a liberal commentator and co-host of The Five. The 80-year-old leader claimed he could not tolerate Tarlov’s voice, describing her as unintelligent while noting her tone was the primary source of his frustration.
Trump stated he would have to find another program to watch until Tarlov was removed from the air, though he indicated he would return to the network later in the evening. Tarlov, who is a frequent critic of the president, has previously challenged his administration’s leadership.
