Russia Records Bloodiest Monthly Military Losses Since Invasion of Ukraine in October
Ukraine reports Russian forces suffered record combat casualties in October, with over 54,000 troops killed or severely wounded.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Russia experienced an unprecedented surge in military attrition during October, marking the most destructive month for its forces since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on November 1 that a staggering 54,400 Russian soldiers were either killed or sustained severe injuries throughout the month of October.
According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, personnel-related losses reached 49,040 as of October 29 alone.
This new monthly record represents a significant escalation in the intensity of the conflict as Ukraine continues to invest in firepower to inflict high casualty rates.
Earlier estimates from the General Staff as of October 28 indicated the number of dead and incapacitated Russian troops was already climbing toward previous monthly highs.
Zelenskyy characterized the scale of the losses by noting that the volume of casualties is sufficient to fill 200 carriages of the Moscow Metro.
