SNL Satirizes Trump’s Comments on Male Physique and Potential Nicki Minaj Press Secretary Casting
Saturday Night Live mocks Donald Trump's remarks on male bodies and the rumored hiring of Nicki Minaj as press secretary in a latest Halloween sketch.
POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — Saturday Night Live utilized its latest Halloween-themed broadcast to parody Donald Trump’s recent interest in men’s physiques and his potential to bring rapper Nicki Minaj into his administration.
The segment began with a surprise appearance by Tom Hanks, who reprised his popular character David S. Pumpkins. He joined James Austin Johnson, portraying Trump, who immediately addressed the president’s recent public praise regarding the physical attributes of other men.
Johnson’s Trump character noted that he had been enjoying admiring Hanks’ physique, jokingly joking that there was nothing wrong with such an interest while suggesting he himself might be gay.
The sketch then pivoted to rumors that Trump might appoint Nicki Minaj as his new press secretary, following the brief tenure of Katie Zacharia. New cast member Saidah Belo-Osagie portrayed Minaj, who appeared as a candidate for the high-profile role.
In the scene, Belo-Osagie’s Minaj remarked that Trump’s actions were effectively ending her career. The Trump character then commented on the rapper’s figure, stating he might be able to admire such a similar form if it belonged to a man.
The segment concluded with Veronika Slowikowska, playing Zacharia, attempting to deliver the show’s famous catchphrase. After her character fubbed the line, Tom Hanks returned to step in and deliver the iconic announcement himself.
During the ‘Weekend Update’ segment, host Colin Jost further criticized the president’s focus on the bodies of his associates, telling the Republican party to stop playing ‘smash or pass’ games with one another ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
The episode was hosted by Inde Navarrette, with musical performances by Gracie Abrams. In her opening monologue, Navarrette discussed her role as Rogue in the X-Men franchise and made a subtle reference to a previous controversy involving former host Shane Gillis regarding gym attire.
