Taylor Sheridan’s Dutton Ranch gears up for Season 2 after Record-Breaking Launch
Dutton Ranch, the spinoff from Yellowstone, confirmed to start production on Season 2 early next year after smashing Paramount+ records.
POLICY WIRE — City, Country — The popular spinoff series ‘Dutton Ranch’ is set to return with a second season, following its record-breaking debut on Paramount+ earlier this year. The show, a continuation of the Yellowstone saga, centers around the Dutton family as they seek to rebuild their lives in South Texas after a catastrophic fire forces them to leave their Montana ranch.
Lead actress Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, recently announced the production timeline for the next season. ‘Dutton Ranch is a risk I’m proud we took, moving Beth to a new life in South Texas full of challenges and surprises,’ Reilly said at the Paramount U.K. Upfronts event. The series garnered a substantial global audience, reaching 12.9 million viewers in its first week, making it the most-watched original series launch on Paramount+.
The production of the first season was a significant undertaking, filmed from August 2025 to March 2026 in various locations across Texas, including Ferris, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Despite the success, the series faced some hurdles, notably the absence of creator Taylor Sheridan from the writers’ room. Co-star Cole Hauser discussed these challenges, stating, ‘There were certainly obstacles, but we worked incredibly hard, and we are looking forward to a bright future with our new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell.’
Benjamin Cavell, known for his work on shows like Homeland and The Stand, took over as head writer following the first season’s conclusion. Cavell is bringing a fresh perspective to the series, and Hauser expressed optimism about the new direction. ‘I have full confidence in Ben, and I believe this will be a significant step forward for everyone involved,’ he said.
