Ukraine’s Precision Strikes Neutralize 13 Russian Warplanes in Five Weeks
Ukrainian forces have downed 13 Russian aircraft, including Su-34 fighter-bombers and a Tu-95MS bomber, in a coordinated series of strikes over five weeks.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted and destroyed 13 Russian warplanes and one helicopter in the past five weeks, dealing a significant blow to the Russian Air Force. The losses include Su-34 fighter-bombers and a Tu-95MS bomber, according to data from multiple sources.
Satellite imagery has confirmed the destruction of two Su-34 jets at the Marinovka airfield in Russia, with visual evidence showing the aftermath of these attacks. Ukrainian military sources claim that the Su-34s were hit by Neptune missiles, which have proven effective in these operations.
In another significant strike, Ukrainian forces targeted and destroyed an Iskander-M launcher in Russia’s Kursk region, further undermining Russian military capabilities. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced these successful operations, emphasizing the strategic impact of Ukraine’s defensive actions.
These losses are part of a broader trend of Russian aircraft being neutralized by Ukrainian forces. Since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Russia has reportedly lost more than 100 aircraft, as noted in a British intelligence assessment published recently. This represents a significant drain on Russia’s airpower, with some losses attributed to the use of cheap FPV drones in Ukraine’s Operation Spiderweb.
